Beryl’s Garden >>

Beryl's Garden (designed 2014; built by Hope and Heart Garden Design November 2014).

The brief was to make a colourful and appealing garden at the back of an elderly lady ‘s retirement village unit. Beryl’s son John commissioned this for his mother and planned to be involved in its maintenance. Beryl had previously been a keen gardener herself. A number of plants were to be retained.

The space consisted of a narrow strip in an L shape, along the west and north side of the unit; edged with high orb fencing . We developed a design that added texture and interest to the edge of the concrete path, using Mondo grass. Height was added using a white Crepe Myrtle in one corner and a Lilac in the other. Colourful flowering perennials were added to the existing roses and a blue ceramic pot (existing) was brought out as a feature and filled with blue and red annuals and perennials. A new garden bed was formed under the window to replace the artificial turf.

Old pavers were donated by the Retirement Village and used to complete the paved area to neatly accommodate the bins, and to edge the new garden bed.

This was a budget renovation costing only around $2,000 for all plants, materials and labour.
